Initial Diagnostic Evaluation
Every individual therapeutic relationship begins with a diagnostic evaluation. This initial hour-long session is used to review your current experience of distress, understand broader contextual details about your life, review policies and procedural information, and allow space for you to ask any questions you might have about the therapeutic process. So much of successful therapy is about finding a clinician who you feel comfortable bearing witness to who you are as a person; this initial session allows for you to assess whether the therapeutic style and overall environment are congruent with what you are looking for.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is an 8 phase psychotherapy treatment developed in the 1980's by Dr. Francine Shapiro. Oftentimes when we experiences difficult life experiences, aspects of our memories can seemingly become "stuck" on a painful loop. EMDR is an evidence-based treatment option that offers the memory a more adaptive resolution and accelerates the healing process by providing new cognitive insights and the alleviation of emotional distress. As a way of ensuring that there is enough time, up to 1.5 hours are allotted for EMDR sessions.
